PSYCHOTHERAPY IN TRAINING

I am training as a cognitive-analytic psychotherapist (2023–2026) at the University of Helsinki, with a focus on adolescents and adults. I offer psychotherapy in training, which is conducted according to the same principles as traditional psychotherapy. No referral or diagnosis is required for training psychotherapy; a wish to care for one’s mental health and wellbeing is sufficient. Training psychotherapy can be provided either as a short-term process (16–24 sessions) or as a longer-term treatment period (40+ sessions).

During the psychotherapy training period, the psychotherapy trainee is supported by an experienced, trainer-level psychotherapist. The therapeutic work is discussed regularly and confidentially, while fully maintaining the client’s anonymity.

As a psychotherapy trainee, I am not yet a psychotherapist licensed by Valvira, and therefore it is not possible to apply for Kela reimbursement for psychotherapy provided during training. Nevertheless, training psychotherapy is an affordable option for receiving support for your personal situation.

The fee for psychotherapy during the training phase is €55 / 410 DKK (45 minutes).

The Cognitive-Analytic Approach

I provide psychotherapy in training within a cognitive-analytic (CAT) framework. CAT is a flexible, goal-oriented, and time-limited approach to psychotherapy, in which the work is always tailored individually to the client’s situation and needs. In the early stages of therapy, we set goals together by clarifying the direction you would like your life to take and the kinds of changes you hope for in your inner experience and/or relationships. Our work may include both dialogue and various therapeutic exercises, all carefully adapted to support your specific situation and needs. The aim is to ease psychological distress and strengthen a sense of agency through increased self-understanding, new perspectives, and more flexible ways of relating and acting.

Welcome to my therapy practice!

You are welcome to my practice just as you are, in the situation and with the challenges you are currently facing. You can book an appointment even if your thoughts feel somewhat more organised, but also if it is difficult to clearly grasp what the problem is. Life may feel heavy, direction may feel lost, or you may feel lost within yourself. Your symptoms and difficulties may have appeared suddenly in your life, or they may have been your companions for quite some time.

There may have been sudden, distressing events in your life, or there may be longer-term experiences in the background that affect your mood and sense of wellbeing. Sometimes experiences of insecurity, neglect, or other difficult events in childhood can leave traces whose significance it has not previously been possible to pause and explore or make sense of.

You may find yourself in a situation where you long for a professional alongside you—someone with whom you can calmly and confidentially reflect on and examine your situation. We can begin together to explore what your symptoms and experiences are communicating and what kind of support you need right now in order to feel better.

You are much more than your challenges or symptoms. They are a meaningful part of your story, like guiding threads, and they speak of the mind’s remarkable ways of protecting us and helping us survive painful life experiences. In psychotherapy, there is a safe space for all of this to be shared, held, and understood.
